How to Efficiently Compute Ranges Over a Difference Between Boxes, With Applications to Underwater Localization
نویسندگان
چکیده
When using underwater autonomous vehicles, it is important to localize them. Underwater localization is very approximate. As a result, instead of a single location x, we get a set X of possible locations of a vehicle. Based on this set of possible locations, we need to find the range of possible values of the corresponding objective function f(x). For missions on the ocean floor, it is beneficial to take into account that the vehicle is in the water, i.e., that the location of this vehicle is not in a set X ′ describing the under-floor matter. Thus, the actual set of possible locations of a vehicle is a difference set X −X ′. So, it is important to find the ranges of different functions over such difference sets. In this paper, we propose an effective algorithm for solving this problem. c ⃝2018 World Academic Press, UK. All rights reserved.

Range-only Benthic Rover Localization off the Central California Coast
. Nowadays, the use of autonomous vehicles for ocean research has increased, since these vehicles have a better cost/performance ratio than crewed vessels or oceanographic ships. For example, autonomous surface vehicles can be used to localize underwater targets. This paper describes a mission to find a crawling robot Benthic Rover on the abyssal plain in the north eastern Pacific, using single...
متن کاملA Localization Scheme for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
In this paper, we study the localization problem in large-scale Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs). Unlike in the terrestrial positioning, the global positioning system (GPS) can not work efficiently underwater. The limited bandwidth, the severely impaired channel and the cost of underwater equipment all makes the localization problem very challenging. Most current localization schemes...
متن کاملNormal forms of Hopf Singularities: Focus Values Along with some Applications in Physics
This paper aims to introduce the original ideas of normal form theory and bifurcation analysis and control of small amplitude limit cycles in a non-technical terms so that it would be comprehensible to wide ranges of Persian speaking engineers and physicists. The history of normal form goes back to more than one hundreds ago, that is to the original ideas coming from Henry Poincare. This tool p...
متن کاملAn Improved Time-Reversal-Based Target Localization for Through-Wall Microwave Imaging
Recently, time reversal (TR) method, due to its high functionality in heterogeneous media has been widely employed in microwave imaging (MI) applications. One of the applications turning into a great interest is through-wall microwave imaging (TWMI). In this paper, TR method is applied to detect and localize a target obscured by a brick wall using a numerically generated data. Regarding this, i...
متن کاملMeasuring the Accuracy of Object Detectors and Trackers
The accuracy of object detectors and trackers is most commonly evaluated by the Intersection over Union (IoU) criterion. To date, most approaches are restricted to axis-aligned or oriented boxes and, as a consequence, many datasets are only labeled with boxes. Nevertheless, axis-aligned or oriented boxes cannot accurately capture an object’s shape. To address this, a number of densely segmented...
